The Architects Association of South Asia (AASA) emerged from the legacy of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation of Architects (SAARCH), the shared challenges faced by the architects in the South Asia, and a collective determination to create a sustainable, democratic platform for professional exchange, harmonize standards, collectively resolve architectural and urban challenges unique to South Asia and global representation of the voices of the South Asian Architects.
Between 2023 and 2025, presidents and representatives of the seven founding member institution counties held multiple meetings in the region which highlighted the urgent need to establish a new, independent, professional, nonpolitical and volunteer association of National Architects' body of the South Asia region to promote regional cooperation and professional growth among architects in South Asian region.
On 5th April 2025, under the presence and consensus of the Presidents of the architectural institutes of the South Asian region, it was formally declared to establish a new regional body titled the "Architects Association of South Asia". AASA was formally established with its constitution adopted on the 25th August 2025 in Kathmandu.
